1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy explains how dosepal (the "App") handles information. The App is developed and maintained by Joseph Rey Amper Tolentino, a software engineer ("we," "us," or "our").
dosepal is a low-friction reminder and tracking app for medications, vitamins, supplements, and pet medications. It helps you set reminder times you choose, receive reminders on your device, and record whether a dose was taken.
The current version of dosepal runs entirely on your device. It does not require an account. The App does not have internet access permission, so it cannot send your information to us or to anyone else on its own. The rest of this policy explains what the App stores on your device and the few ways information can leave it, all of which you control.
2. Information We Collect
Information you enter
When you use dosepal, you may enter the following information. It is stored only on your device:
- Item details. The type of item (medication, vitamin, or supplement) and the name you give it.
- Schedules. Reminder times, the repeat pattern you choose (for example daily, selected weekdays, every few days, or as needed), the device time zone, and whether reminders are on.
- Dose records. Each scheduled dose and the status you log: Taken, Not taken, or Not sure, along with the time you logged it. The App also keeps the previous status so you can undo a change.
- Supply counts. If you turn on supply tracking for an item, the quantity you enter and changes to it when doses are logged.
- Pet names. If you turn on the Pets feature, the names of pets you add and the reminders you link to them.
- Label text. If you use Scan label, the text you type or paste from a printed label. The App reads this text on your device to suggest a name you can review.
- Settings. Your choices for lock-screen name hiding, sound, vibration, mascot appearance, and which optional features are turned on.
Information collected automatically
dosepal does not include analytics, advertising, crash reporting, or error-monitoring tools. It does not collect usage events, device identifiers, IP addresses, or location. It does not use cookies.
To deliver reminders, the App stores local notification and alarm identifiers and their scheduled times on your device. These are used only to schedule and cancel your reminders.
Information we do not receive
Because the current version of the App cannot connect to the internet, we do not receive any of the information described above. It is not transmitted to our servers or to third-party servers by the App.
3. How We Use Information
The App uses the information on your device to:
- Show your doses on the Today and Calendar screens
- Schedule and deliver reminder notifications at the times you chose
- Record and display the status you log for each dose, and let you undo it
- Update supply counts when you log a dose, if you turned supply tracking on
- Link reminders to pets you added, if you turned the Pets feature on
- Build a text history report when you choose to export one
- Apply your privacy, sound, vibration, and appearance settings
The App does not use your information for advertising or profiling.
4. Medication and Health-Related Information
The names of medications, vitamins, and supplements, along with your schedules and dose records, may reveal information about your health. We treat this information as sensitive. It stays on your device, and the App does not transmit it.
dosepal organizes times that you choose or confirm. It does not decide which medications you should take, how much, or when. It does not give advice about missed or late doses. See the Medical Disclaimer in the Terms & Conditions.
5. Family and Pet Information
Family. The App includes a Family Circle screen that describes a sharing feature. That feature is not available in the current version. No family-member information is collected and nothing is shared with other people.
If you enter a reminder for another person, such as a child or an older relative, that information is stored on your device like any other reminder. Entering a reminder for someone does not mean that person is using the App or has agreed to anything. You should only enter information about another person when you have the appropriate right or authority to do so, such as being their parent, guardian, or caregiver, or having their permission.
Pets. If you turn on the Pets feature, you can add a pet's name and link reminders to that pet. This information stays on your device.
6. Camera and Image Processing
The current version of dosepal does not use your camera and does not request camera or photo permission. It does not capture, upload, or store images.
The Scan label screen accepts text that you type or paste. The App reads that text on your device using built-in rules to suggest an item name, strength, quantity, and form for you to review. This processing happens entirely on your device. No third-party service and no artificial intelligence service is involved.
If a future version adds camera scanning, we will update this policy before that feature is released.
7. Notifications
dosepal asks for notification permission so it can remind you at the times you set. The App asks after you save a reminder, not when you first open it. If you decline, you can still log doses in the App, but you will not receive reminders.
The App also uses these device capabilities to deliver reminders:
- Exact alarms, so reminders can fire at the chosen time. On Android 12 and later, this depends on your system's exact-alarm setting.
- Restart detection, so reminders can be rescheduled after your device restarts.
- Vibration, if you leave vibration on.
Lock-screen privacy. By default, reminders on your lock screen show "dosepal reminder" instead of the item name. You can change this under Privacy in the App.
Notifications are created on your device. They are not sent from a server, and the App does not use push-notification tokens.
8. Data Storage
All App data is stored in a private database on your device. Other apps cannot normally read it.
Device backups. Android has a system backup feature that may include app data, depending on your device and account settings. If device backup is turned on, your device's operating system may include dosepal data in that backup. That backup is handled by your device or operating-system provider under their own terms and privacy practices, not by dosepal. You can manage device backup in your device's system settings.
Cloud backup. dosepal does not offer its own cloud backup in the current version. Your device is the only copy of your data unless it is included in a device backup or you export it yourself.
9. Third-Party Services
The current version of dosepal does not include third-party analytics, advertising, crash reporting, authentication, or cloud database services.
Some third parties may still be involved in ways outside the App's control:
- The app store you downloaded dosepal from may collect information under its own privacy policy, for example about downloads and purchases.
- Your device's operating system delivers notifications and may back up app data, as described above.
- Apps you share an export with handle that information under their own privacy policies (see Section 10).
10. Data Sharing
The App does not share your information on its own.
History export. When you choose Export history, the App creates a text report from your dose records. The report includes item names and the status you logged. The App opens your device's share menu only after you tap a share button. Whatever app or person you choose then receives the report, and that recipient's own terms and privacy practices apply. dosepal does not upload the report.
Selling information. Because the App does not transmit your information to us, we do not receive it, and we do not sell it.
Legal requests. We do not hold copies of your App data, so we cannot provide it in response to requests from others.
11. Data Retention
Your information stays on your device until it is removed.
- Archiving an item stops its future reminders and hides it. Doses you already logged are kept in your history.
- Pausing an item stops its future reminders until you resume it.
- Changing a schedule removes future unlogged doses that no longer match. Doses you already logged are kept.
The current version does not include an in-app control to permanently delete individual items, pets, or your whole history. To remove all dosepal data from your device, you can clear the App's storage in your device settings or uninstall the App. Data in an existing device backup is handled by your device's backup provider.
To correct a saved reminder in the current version, archive it and add a new one.
12. Data Security
Your data is stored in the App's private storage on your device, and the App does not transmit it. Your device's security, such as a screen lock and an up-to-date operating system, also protects your information. We recommend using a screen lock, especially if other people can access your device.
No electronic storage method is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Anyone who can unlock your device may be able to open the App and see your reminders and history.
13. Your Choices and Rights
You can:
- View your reminders, schedules, and dose history in the App
- Change a dose status you logged, or undo it
- Pause, resume, or archive reminders
- Export a copy of your dose history as a text report
- Hide item names on the lock screen, which is on by default
- Turn sound and vibration on or off for reminders
- Turn optional features such as Pets on or off
- Allow or deny notifications and exact alarms in your device settings at any time
- Remove all App data by clearing the App's storage or uninstalling the App
The App has no account. There is no account to create, access, or delete, and no analytics settings because the App does not collect analytics.
Depending on where you live, you may have legal rights over your personal information, such as rights to access, correct, or delete it. Because your dosepal data stays on your device, you can use the controls above to exercise most of these rights directly. For questions, contact us using the details in Section 17.
14. Children's Privacy
dosepal is intended to be used by adults and by people old enough to manage their own reminders under local law. [MINIMUM AGE / AUDIENCE STATEMENT, if required by the app store or applicable law.]
A parent, guardian, or caregiver may use dosepal to keep track of reminders for a child or another family member. In that case, the adult using the App is responsible for that information. The person the reminder is for is not considered a user of the App. That information stays on the device and is not sent to us.
The App does not knowingly collect personal information from children, because it does not transmit information to us at all. If you have questions about this, please contact us.
15. International Users
dosepal can be used in many countries. Privacy laws and rights differ by country and region. This policy describes how the App currently works. It is not a statement that the App complies with or is certified under any particular law, such as the GDPR, the CCPA/CPRA, or HIPAA.
Because the App does not transmit your information, your dosepal data is not transferred across borders by the App.
16. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as the App changes. For example, we will update it before releasing features that send information off your device, such as cloud backup, accounts, family sharing, or camera scanning. When we make changes, we will update the "Last Updated" date above. For significant changes, we may also give notice in the App or through the app store listing.
